Time together: 1.5 years
Influences: Not limited to one particular influence, band members have been playing across the country for 30+ years. These veteran musicians collectively have a broad sense of style, together creating a unique sound.
Favorite kind of fan/audience member: Many area musicians frequent their shows; the more sophisticated listener appreciates the demanding musicianship and vocal complexities.
Favorite original song or cover song to play: Band members vote on all of BOFFO’s selections, covers and originals. The band’s goal was to pick songs that the members always wanted to perform in their music careers. Still, Doug says, “If I had to pick one it would be ‘Black Cow’ from the Steely Dan album Aja.”
Most embarrassing moment on stage: They’ve had their moments. One blooper that comes to Doug’s mind was when Dave was clicking off a song and everyone else started playing a different one. “So much for following the setlist!”
Favorite venue to play: BOFFO really likes the way the downtown area is coming to life (including venues like Pizza Papalis, The Blarney, Sidelines, Toledo Main Street and the new arena), but the band also likes the feel of some of the smaller, more intimate venues around town like P & D’s Sports Page in west Toledo and the Lounge (formerly the Breakroom) in Maumee.
Sound: Kind of a funky, rock, jazzy groove thing with four part harmonies.
Gig list: BOFFO plays at P & D’s Sports Page on Saturday, October 17 and at Pizza Papalis on Friday and Saturday, October 30-31.
